Westchester Region NAACP ACT-SO Coalition holds a competition in March or April of each year. A student may compete in one, two or three categories among 26 available categories. Participants must be amateurs in their categories of competition, i.e., a student who is or has been paid professionally is allowed to compete only in categories outside of his or her professional experience.
A regional first place winner in any category is eligible to compete in the national competition the following July at the time and place of the NAACP national convention.
Students are required to seek a coach in preparing for competition.
